Job: Volunteer Coordinator

Summary: Coordinate agency volunteer program, provide recruitment, direction and consultation for all volunteer functions within the agency to involve a community of supporters, and coordinate the agency’s in-kind donations.

Major Responsibilities:

Confers with staff to plan volunteer program consistent with needs of agency.

Recruits, interview, and process applicants for potential volunteers and perform criminal background checks on all potential volunteers.

Organizes and provides training, recognition and awards for volunteers.

Schedules volunteers for volunteer orientation/training sessions on a regular basis dictated by program needs, and conducts these training sessions.

Promotes and maintains individuals and group volunteer opportunities within agency.

Maintains on-going updated list of all agency volunteer job descriptions and special project needs for prospective volunteers.

Arranges photo ID name badges for all volunteers.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes days, evenings and occasional weekends.

Manages volunteer holiday programs (Thanksgiving, Christmas etc.) Secures and operates Santa’s Sack locations including hiring and supervising contract/volunteer staff as needed.

Develops and maintains close working relationship with agency staff to ensure a high functioning volunteer component.

Provides supervision of all existing volunteer collaborations including groups and special projects.

Solicits and coordinates in-kind donations cultivating and stewarding donors as needed.

Informs and coordinates potential contributors of immediate needs of agency and encourages them to contribute through in-kind donations and drives (food, toys, toiletries, etc.)

Speaks to community groups to solicit volunteers and donations, as well as provide an overview of agency programs.

Assists with other projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a Human Services-related field strongly preferred. Two to five years experience successfully managing a volunteer program required. Must have an intermediate level of understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must have strong organizational and detail orientation skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. Must be comfortable speaking to large and small groups.
