Blog Post: What is a Citizen Marketer?
posted Friday, April 25, 2008 6:17 PM
The short answer is all of us.
Currently I am reading a book called Citizen Marketers by Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba. It is about what is going on with the way we all contribute to the content of the internet and the community in general. From blogging to Wikipedia to You Tube to podcasting, we and what is on our minds are the content. And as such, in 2006 Time named its person of the year – YOU. Yep, it’s you and me and your brother and your co-worker. It’s all of us because we are generating the content in all of the aforementioned outlets and more. And who are our editors? Well, we are. All of us. I found this book by McConnell and Huba to be very interesting for several reasons. It takes a look at the history of lots of things involving social marketing. Blogging, TiVo, You Tube, My Space and that ABC show America ’s Funniest Home Videos. Not to mention the entrepreneurial master Johann Gutenberg who lived in the early 1400’s. But I think one of the most fascinating things in the book is the discussion of how the internet and social marketing affects China . For more on that you’ll just have to check out the book for yourself. Happy reading!
