Blog Post: Parents Involvement in Recruitment of Y Generation Candidates
posted Tuesday, December 16, 2008 4:02 PM
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I am totally for allowing the parents involvement in the process as long as the applicant realizes how it may impact their candidacy. If the parent insists on being part of their son or daughter application process then how it impacts the decision is up to us. We are not at a talent shortage in the United States when so many are looking for work. The other candidate(s) that presents themselves without their parent gets extra points in my assessment. Being able to do a job search on ones own takes some courage and shows independence. These are good qualities to display as a job candidate. If there is concern or a questionable process the candidate should seek coaching or employment counseling beforehand. The company should be able to recognize that they are not going to get both the parent and the employee … so negotiation should be directly with the person you are hiring. Okay this is one side of the equation. I know some employers are stuck looking for specific talent that is difficult to find. Their can be exceptions made. However, accommodations for the parent should not be the rule.
