Blog Post: Keeping the Faith in the Texas Job Market

posted Sunday, January 18, 2009 1:55 PM

Hi, this is Bill Kasko , President and CEO of Frontline Source Group, Inc. a temporary staffing and direct hire employment placement agency here in Dallas .  It is hard to believe just how many people are looking for jobs right now.  Only a few months ago the job market in Texas was so strong and positive.  Then in a matter of days, not weeks or months, we watched as it changed right before our eyes.  Don’t get me wrong, the Texas job market is still the best in the country but it has slowed down.  Everyday our offices throughout the state receive an average 100+ phone calls from people all over the country asking about the Texas market.  They see Texas , like many of the early settlers saw the United States , as the land of opportunity.  Although many of you might think it is a bad job market as you work your way through the maze of interviews and application submittals, I promise it is not as bad as other areas of the country.

Over the past few months, we have discussed ideas and ways to help you in your job search.  Today I want to stress on one item that seems to be coming up more and more….faith.  You must keep the faith that you will find something.  You must continue to work to find that new opportunity and stay positive.  Finding a new career opportunity in a tight market does not come easy nor will anyone hand it to you.  You have to ‘work’ at finding work!  Remember, this is the best country in the world and you can do and be anything you want.  Be open to any opportunities, temporary, temp to hire or direct hire positions that come along.  If you work with a staffing agency, remember that the recruiter is under a lot of stress just like you.  With only a handful of employment positions opening and closing so fast and thousands of candidates looking for jobs, it can be overwhelming trying to please everyone.  Be honest and trust people that are working to help you.

If you are looking for employment, or are looking for that perfect employee, Frontline Source Group is here to help you! Our new motto…”We are not participating in the recession!”

Please be sure to visit us on our website at www.frontlinesourcegroup.com  for more information about us and our available positions!

So very true, but so very hard to do.

I have found a couple of things that work for me in this regard. First, I get up as I always did, get ready as if I were going to work, and put on my nice work clothes. Then I work on the computer answering emails and looking at a few job boards. Then I get out of the house and go have breakfast.

Just being in nice clothes, out among others having breakfast helps set the tone for the rest of the day.

Another important thing I do is listen to positive self talk recordings from Shad Helmstetter. The only reason I name him is that I don't know about the others and I do have his 8 disc self talk series. Warning: for me anyway, when I first got them and started playing them, it created a lot of conflict in my mind. Just keep on listening to them and no matter how much your conscious mind doesn't believe it, just try to go with it.

For what it's worth, these things I've listed above help me keep hope.
