Marsha Gathron, PhD. (posthumously) our Community Mentor of the Year is the first woman to be awarded posthumously. A former Adjunct Instructor at Austin College in Sherman, Texas she fulfilled a life-long dream when she wrote and received a grant to help women from abusive homes to reestablish themselves in a new setting. The plan focused on women having nice homes while getting the necessary education to move forward. One stipulation of the grant called for women who had been helped to mentor new women coming to the homes. Members of WOVI Red River accepted the award on her behalf. Marsha was a member of the Red River Chapter.

She helped meet the needs of fellow members and guests both in their personal and professional lives. Liz Patel – As First Vice President of WOVI Frisco, her positive energy and enthusiasm helped the Chapter by providing excellent monthly programs, making mentor-mentee assignments and by encouraging involvement with other Chapters through the WOVI Interest Rings.
