Blog Post: A Resume Tip

posted Wednesday, September 12, 2007 9:11 PM

Attention all Job Seekers! I have been reviewing lots and lots of resumes lately. I really feel compelled to share with everyone something I am seeing over and over again. It is in a word...INCONSISTENT! I am seeing paragraphs with a period ending sentences in the middle of the text and then at the end of the paragraph - nothing. No period to be found. Anywhere.

An additional inconsistency I see is in the use of hyphens. To space before or to space after - that is the question. Whichever you choose to do, make sure you do it the same way throughout the resume. Go back and check every hyphen to ensure that you have done the same thing the same way every time. I personally prefer a space before the hyphen and also after the hyphen.

Another consistent problem I see is a random usage of CAPITAL LETTERS. There seems to be just some sort of indiscriminate use of capital letters. Be careful! Use them sparingly and only when a word should be capitalized.

And one parting piece of advice would be this, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOURSELF PROOF READ YOUR RESUME. AT LEAST FOUR TO FIVE OTHER FOLKS.

Now THAT'S a proper use of capitalization!

Go Jobing!
