Blog Post: Company Holiday Party - All "Company" or All "Party"?
posted Thursday, November 29, 2007 9:24 AM
It's almost December and it's almost Company Holiday Party time!! If your company is one that hosts a Holiday Party for employees, do you also review "Holiday Party" etiquette with your employees prior to the event? The information can be disseminated in a way conducive to your environment - whether it be in a morning meeting, email, newsletter, or maybe direct them to a few websites with tips so the research is up to them! The important thing is to distribute the information some way to your employees. Not all employees realize or know the specific etiquette at a holiday party. I recently did a Google search for "Holiday Office Party Etiquette" and found a wealth of information and tips on the "Dos and Don'ts". There were three consistent tips I found in my search:
1) If you are in town and able - attend the company party. It is a great way to network internally and build relationships. Even if you have two holiday parties to attend in one evening, it is well worth your time to attend your company holiday party even if it is just for a short time. 2) Remember, this is still a "Company" Holiday Party - Even though the words "Company" and "Party" are in the title, let your "Company" side rule. This is a business function and business etiquette applies. You have to see everyone come Monday morning and be sure your behavior (and beverage consumption) is in check while attending the event. 3) Appropriate Dress is required - As the above tip states, this is still a business function. If you are unsure of what to wear, lean towards your normal business attire and you know you will be suited for the environment. When you are deciding what to wear remember that your co-workers, your boss and maybe company executives will be attending the party - ask yourself "Would I feel comfortable if they saw me in this?" The hustle and bustle of the holidays can add stress to our already busy lives. Your company hosts a holiday party as a way to thank the employees and so everyone can relax and enjoy themselves - it is intended to be fun! These are just a few simple suggestions for your employees to follow to ensure that more stress is not added to anyone and that all have a great time!
