Blog Post: A Few Things that Will Help You Stand Out When Looking for a New Career!

posted Saturday, April 5, 2008 10:01 AM

Hi, this is Bill Kasko , President and CEO of Frontline Source Group, Inc. a temporary staffing and direct hire employment placement agency based in Dallas Fort Worth. The U.S. economy is slowing down which in turn makes employers more hesitant to take on new hires. So what can you do during this 'slow down' when you need a job? Here are a few ideas that can help you get the job you want!

·          Request more face-to-face meetings: During high times it may be alright to rely on phone conversations and e-mails. Now that the market is slowing down the competition in fierce and you can make a better impression face-to-face.

·          Step up your job-search activity: Make sure you apply to as many positions as you can (that you are qualified for of course.) According to Greg Gostanian “Plan on making up to 40 phone calls a week and sending out between 15 and 20 letters to prospective employers, recruiters, and others.” If you do this, you will increase your odds of finding a job that you want.

·          Try to be as flexible as you can: With the slow down of the economy employers may not be as likely to hire a full-time employee at the salary you want. Be open to contract or temporary work. Once you have your foot in the door, you will increase your odds  of likely being able to come on full-time once the company is ready.

·          Consider relocating: When you expand the geography where you are willing to live, you have a bigger playing field with more opportunities.

·          Scour the hidden job market: Research has been shown that only 20% of the open available positions are actually posted on job boards or advertised. Through networking you can find out about more opportunities that are available to you. Try to make good contacts and get the word out that you are searching for a job.

·          Spend as little time as you can on Internet job boards: If you spend to much of your time relying on job boards, you are fighting for positions that many other people are chasing for as well. Your time is better spent out networking or going straight to companies that specialize in your industry. Always keep an eye on the job boards, but don’t let that be your only resource.

·          Take advantage of social networking sites: LinkedIn, Facebook and Myspace are great networking sites that can help you re-connect with old acquaintances and also make new ones. The more people you know the better your chances of landing an opportunity that you would not have had before.

·          Find an Agency to work with: Finding the right staffing agency to work with can be a nightmare.  Find an agency that respects your time and does not want to waste it!  If you have not done so yet, visit us at www.frontlinesourcegroup.com and make sure you submit your resume to our company.  Every resume that comes into Frontline Source Group is physically reviewed by a recruiter…no one else in the staffing industry can guarantee you that kind of service!
