Job Summary
We have a vacancy for a Principal Highways Design Engineer with roads technical experience, to work on local, national and international schemes from our offices in Bedford. You will join AECOM’s established South East Region highways business which continues to expand.

Due to recent success with the Highways England Delivery Integration Partner programme we are looking to grow our teams throughout the UK. Working in a collaborative partnership with BAM Nuttall and Mace as Linkconnex to deliver a range of trunk road and motorway improvements under the new £8.7bn Delivery Integration Partnership contract for Highways England.  Through this appointment AECOM will provide professional services across the Midlands and South-East of England.  

You will be a Chartered Engineer with proven design and project management experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. They will have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of major highway and infrastructure projects. If you are a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high quality projects, the n do contact us for an initial discussion. You will need to adopt a flexible approach and  be able to work away from Bedford for short duration to suit project needs.

Additional projects in the South East Region include Highways England Road Investment Programme for East and Midlands, the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvement and A46 Coventry Junctions improvements. In addition, we are supporting the  Highways England OD East Capital Delivery Programme and continue to support Major Contractors on Design & Build highway and infrastructure projects. 

Our current client list includes Highways England, Transport for London Transport Scotland, Highways England, Welsh Government, Local Authorities in the South East and various contractors.

Job responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Delivery of all specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required
  • Managing the workload and the technical management and oversight of a design team
  • Technical and  Financial Management of medium sized projects or tasks
  • Writing and overseeing the preparation of contract documents and technical reports as required
  • Communication to the immediate team, the wider organisation and external parties
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing junior staff
  • Managing and developing both internal and external client relationships Identification and management of project risks

Minimum Requirements
 
To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria
  • Graduate in Civil Engineering or equivalent with experience of Highway Engineering in directly relevant fields
  • A highly motivated Chartered Engineer with excellent communication skills
  • Full lifecycle experience across a range of projects
  • Significant technical design experience across a range of disciplines to DMRB and MCHW
  • Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strive for technical excellence


Preferred Qualifications
BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering
Chartered Engineer and member of a professional institution
