JOB TITLE: GROUNDSKEEPER

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

PAYGRADE: M-2

DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: GROUNDS SUPERVISOR

DAYS/SALARY: 236 DAYS/ $11.38 hr. to $17.06 hr. based on years’ experience

Job Summary
Performs simple general maintenance tasks. Duties may include but are not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizing, watering, planting and setting up equipment for sporting events.

Job Scope
This position has no supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operates a variety of hand tools in the performance of duties such as shovel, rake and hoe to perform tasks which include removing weeds, dead trees and brush, and cleaning up job sites etc.
Operates simple power equipment such as gasoline powered lawn mower, string trimmer, electric trimmer, and riding mower to maintain the district's grassy areas
Operates gasoline powered equipment to clear and maintain artificial turf
Plants trees, shrubs, grass and flowering plants to enhance the district's buildings and grounds Waters grass and trees and fertilizes grass
Maintains football, baseball and soccer fields
Cleans complex after sporting events, school related meetings and rental activities Sets up tables and chairs for sporting events, school meetings and rental activities Performs related duties as required

Physical and Environmental Conditions
Essential job functions require a variety of physical movements such as: sits, stands, walks, kneels, crouches, squats, crawls, bends, twists, climbs and lifts items weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Is exposed to dirt, dust, noise, vibration, wetness/humidity and darkness or poor lighting on a daily basis. Is exposed to extreme seasonal temperatures. Is exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. One year experience as a groundskeeper is preferred. Valid Texas driver's license, Class C is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skills in operating lawn equipment. Ability to follow specific oral instructions from the supervisor. Ability to use push mower, string trimmer, electric trimmer and riding mower.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment subject to extreme seasonal weather, conditions, and dirt. Ability to work in awkward or confining work space and tolerate air contamination such as dust, fumes, disagreeable odors, etc.
