Job Description

Overall Job Objective

Basic Function

The Adult Athletic Scorekeeper/Referee is responsible for overseeing the field/court, and will keep track of the scorebook and scoreboard, if available, for the designated sport (softball, kickball, basketball, volleyball). They will be the primary on field/court contact for players, managers, and officials.  They will also be trained to officiate sand volleyball and act as officials for that sport.

  • Basic mathematics skills required
  • Leadership and on the spot decision making skills required
  • Knowledge and application of the rules and regulations of the particular sports are expected (both governing body rules and league by-laws)
  • Ability to work flexible schedule with evenings required
  • Ability to assist with field supervision, spectator problems, and communicate with players, managers, officials, and supervisor effectively
  • Set-up and break-down of the field/court and returning equipment to storage area
  • Maintain required documents
  • Provides CPR/First Aid as required
  • Maintains cleanliness of storage room and organization of materials and equipment
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Must be able to sit for long periods, walk long distances, kneel, hear, talk, see
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme weather conditions with loud noise levels
  • Must be attentive and aware of the play of the game
  • Reporting any broken or unsafe conditions to the supervisor
  • Act as referee when assigned during Sand Volleyball.

Minimum Requirements

Employee must be at least 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.  Previous experience keeping score or playing the sport is preferred, but not required.  CPR certification will need to be obtained within two (2) months of hire.

Employee must be knowledgeable on basic athletic rules, keeping of game score, managing scoreboards, and have knowledge of CPR/FA (can be completed once hired).

Work Schedule Requirements:
Must be able to work evenings;
Spring: Wednesday 6:00 - 9:00 pm (May vary by season and sport).
Summer: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays, 6:00 - 11:00 pm (May vary by season and sport).
