Position Purpose

For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed.  A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:  

  • High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE: 
  • Three (3) years land surveying experience which involved operating total stations, data collectors, levels and level rods
EQUIVALENCY(IES): 
  • An associate's degree in a math, surveying, engineering technology or Geographic Information Science (GIS) field plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements. 
  • A bachelor's degree in a math, surveying, engineering technology or Geographic Information Science (GIS) field will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY(IES):
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • MS Office or similar software skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans 
  • Experience operating Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment is a plus.
NOTE(s):

Dallas Water Utilities Survey Division: Projects may involve street construction, water lines, and right-of-ways/easement/property-line establishments. Works in a small team.
Public Works (Street Repair Division): Experience in Construction Layout is required for the successful execution of the duties for this position. Ability to review and calculate grades to assure positive drainage in streets, alley and ditches is also required.
