The purpose of this position is to manage all phases of the City's Risk Management Program to include worker's compensation and property/casualty/liability insurance for all City-owned properties and assets.  This is accomplished by managing safety issues that may expose the City to litigation or insurance claims; identifying exposures; controlling losses; minimizing exposures; managing injuries and accidents; and working with vendors, employees and citizens.  Other duties include coordinating all carrier and vendor information.

 Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implements strategies for safety and program effectiveness by researching industry standards and trends; developing and implementing goals and objectives; working with departments on their goals and concerns; and developing standards and procedures.
  • Recommends actions for review by coordinating with departments, employees, the public and staff; inspecting sites of injuries or accidents; identifying hazards for reduction or elimination; and completing accident investigations.
  • Coordinates carrier information by reviewing all coverages and limits; reviewing agreements and contracts; identifying liability exposures; conducting field evaluations and inspections; coordinating with departments on ADA requests; and working with carriers and representatives.
  • Maintains records and data by monitoring claims and resulting actions; coordinating efforts for repairs and costs; reviewing claims reports and recommending actions; ensuring timely adjudications and settlements; and analyzing causes, patterns or trends.


  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business or Public Administration, Human Resources or related field
  • Five years of experience in risk management, processing and handling both employee injuries and claims and property, casualty for citizens and City losses

 Supplemental Information:

  • Knowledge of risk management and exposures
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation and general liability laws and regulations
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials
  • Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products
