DocAssist medical scribes experience firsthand the interaction between healthcare providers and patients. Scribes will observe and record the entire process including history and physical, diagnostic interpretation, and disposition. DocAssist allow scribes to fully immerse themselves in the medical field unlike most other jobs.

The healthcare providers are engaged in your success as a scribe, as they are directly involved in your training and evaluations.

POSITION SUMMARY
A medical scribe's role is to accompany healthcare providers and document the entire provider-patient interaction including history, physical exam, diagnostic interpretation, and disposition in the electronic medical record. A medical scribe helps maximizes the provider's time spent with patients, as well as, overall departmental efficiency by lessening the load of clerical work. A medical scribe also coordinates with departmental resources regarding orders, tests, and results.
 
Looking for candidates who are self-motivated, proactive, dependable, have a passion for medicine, great interpersonal skills, and are able to multi-task. This is not an internship. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 
  1. Record details of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, family medical history, disease risk factors, medications and allergies.
  2. Record details of physical exam, including pertinent positives and negatives, noted abnormalities and patient general condition. If orders are not completed in a timely fashion or if results are incomplete, investigate causes and solutions.
  3. Other duties as delineated by the provider within the medical scribe's scope of practice.

* (For duties 1-3, information is obtained directly from provider. The scribe will not act independently or perform medical decisionmaking.)

 

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma and, preferably, at least one year of college in the area of Pre-Health Studies.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted medical abbreviations
  2. Understanding of the physical exam process and ability to record exam details
  3. Effective typing skills and ability to record information accurately
  4. Computer proficiency and ability to learn new applications quickly
  5. Communication skills and the ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple members of the healthcare team
  6. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations with respect to patients and families


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Flexibility in scheduling
  2. Coping with, at times, a high-pressure environment of the hospital and/or healthcare organization
  3. Discretion to understand and observe the limits of the medical scribe's role
  4. Understanding and maintain compliance with HIPPA regulations

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Standing for long periods of time
  2. Frequent walking for short distances
  3. Repetitive motion work with keyboards, physical writing
