About the job:
Support the TI DLP® Products automotive, Pico, and projection markets with optical reference designs and proof of concept prototypes. Interact with hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of the optical system. Tasks include designing, specifying, selecting, and qualifying optical components. System design areas include projection, 3D scan, light field augmented reality, 3D printing, spectroscopy, auto headlight and head-up displays (HUD). Initial focus is on expanding automotive applications in China, Europe, and Japan. Automotive applications include “Smart” headlight and AR HUD.

In this role you will be creating and/or evaluating new design concepts from TI and customers, and providing performance, tolerance, efficiency, and design for manufacturing analysis and feedback. Develop troubleshooting skillsets needed to distinguish optical system issues from electronic system issues and recognize solutions. Training for DLP optical system support and troubleshooting will be provided. Prepare presentations and technical data packages for delivery of new and existing reference designs to customers.
Frequent travel to customer sites in Asia to develop next generation of applications is required.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibility to support business development priorities and growth in Asia markets for DLP products in the area of optical design and system analysis and support.
Secondary responsibility will be to work with all DLP business units to develop applications to target new areas and markets.

Complex Tasks: Optical system performance analysis, optical system design and stray light analysis using optical design tools, opto-mechanical hardware analysis and troubleshooting.

Management/Organizational Skills: Be able to work effectively with all levels of DLP management including field offices. Effectively handle multiple tasks and set priorities, and thrive in a dynamic environment while meeting serious market window opportunity deadlines.

Team and People Skills: Must be able to communicate and work well in small teams, prepare presentations appropriate to audience, and be able to represent the face of DLP/TI with direct and timely communication to customers as well as internal supervision. Pro-active in acquiring information needed to perform tasks.

Projects and Deliverables: Optical reference designs; analyze, evaluate and assist customers to bring product and prototype systems together. This includes solid state LED, Laser illumination and projection systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering OR Related Field of Study.
• 1+ years of experience in optical design

Preferred Qualifications:
• Zemax and/or Fred optical design tool experience preferred
• Proficiency within 3 months of start required
• Other optical and mechanical CAD software experience a plus
• DLP Design experience a plus
• Fluency in at least one Chinese dialect in addition to English is desirable
