The Dallas Morning News offers reporting internships in breaking news at our downtown Dallas office.Breaking news interns will be assigned a variety of reporting tasks primarily focused on, but not limited to, spot news coverage. The interns will also be expected to write features, take smartphone photos and video, and actively use social media in the news-gathering process.
Applicants should send no more than eight (8) newspaper clips or story links. Clips may be reduced, but must be legible, or the application will be rejected.
The applicant’s primary clips or links should focus on the specific position the applicant desires, but clips or links showing a variety of reporting and writing ability are acceptable.
A cover letter and résumé with references are required with all applications. Application materials will not be returned, and applicants should not expect an explanation of why their application was accepted or rejected.
Application deadline is November 1 and we will make every attempt to inform applicants of their hiring status no later than Jan. 1.
The standard work week is Monday-Friday, but some weekend, night and holiday shifts may be required. Also, all interns are expected to attend weekly brown bag sessions, the intern bus tour, the intern reception and the publisher’s luncheon.
Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) or they may have graduated within six months prior to the internship start date.
Previous daily news experience at a professional news organization is requested.
