JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for all departmental functions in support of the hospital mission, vision, and facility goals.

The Director identifies the cost-effective systems needed to support the business of the department taking into account business trends, resource availability and changes in customers. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors.

The Director identifies and remedies through continuous customer satisfaction data and employee involvement. The Director works with Senior Management in meeting Facility goals.

Oversees: Operating Rooms, Anesthesia Technician, and Sterile Processing Services.

Assists as RN Circulator and Scrub Tech as necessary.

Competencies and responsibilities associated with each position are a combination of hospital-wide and department specific standards. The department specific standards include the competencies appropriate to the ages of the customer served. The employee’s competencies are evaluated on an on-going basis, and formally documented at least annually as part of the Performance Appraisal process. Proven ability to but not limited to:

  • Decreasing agency use in Operating Room
  • Increasing staff accountability
  • Increasing physician and staff satisfaction
  • Decreasing turn-over times in the OR
  • Staffing effectiveness

Required Skills

Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing

Current Texas RN License

BSN REQUIRED, Masters of Nursing, Healthcare Administration or equivalent preferred

Five (5) years’ experience in surgery as circulator

2-3 years’ experience in surgery management which includes pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care preferred

BLS, ACLS and PALS required

CNOR certification preferred

Independent decision making skills and critical thinking

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects

Excellent communication skills with staff and physicians

24 hour accountability of departmental functions
