The Rise Teacher Assistant is to provide the highest quality of early childhood education and therapeutic services to children with Down syndrome or other developmental disabilities from 18 months – 6 years of age and to children without disabilities from 1 year – 5 years of age.

The teacher assistant's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Treat all children with dignity and respect;

• Assist the teacher in providing instruction to the children in large groups,

small groups, and individually;

• Assist the teacher in planning and preparing materials for daily instruction;

• Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room;

• Maintain a clean and safe learning environment;

• Interact appropriately with professionals and families;

• Understand the curriculum;

• Understand the implications of specific disabilities;

• Perform specific medical procedures under the supervision of the teacher;

• Organize and prepare lunches and snacks;

• Clean and do laundry as required;

• Function as a team maintaining a professional attitude and loyalty to Rise at all times;

• Assist in public relation events sponsored by the school;

• Supervise After School activities one day a week

• Participate in in-service and attending conferences; and

• Perform other responsibilities as designated by the Rise Director.

Requirements

It is required that the individual hold a high school equivalent or diploma. A Bachelor’s (B.S. or B.A.) or Child Development Associates (CDA) degree is preferred. It is also recommended that the individual have experience in working with young children with special needs. All personnel are required to have documentation of physicals, and tuberculosis tests, and are strongly encouraged to have the Hepatitis B vaccination. All personnel are required to participate in a minimum of 24 hours of in-service per year. Must maintain Annual CPR, First Aid, AED, Blood borne Pathogen Certification, Child Abuse Training Certification & Sexual Harassment Training Certification.
