Job Description
As a Senior Global Trademark Paralegal in Yum! Brands Global Brand Protection Group, you will play a meaningful role in building and protecting some of the world’s most recognizable and inspirational brands. You will assist in managing the KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell global trademark, copyright, and domain name portfolio and be part of a high performing, collegial team. To be successful, you must be a self-starter, flexible and analytical thinker and outstanding communicator who is comfortable working cross-functionally and influencing across different styles, cultures and perspectives.

Core Responsibilities

Together with your fellow paralegals and partnering with trademark attorneys as needed, the Senior Global Trademark Paralegal will:
  • Conduct and analyze U.S. and international trademark searches to determine availability of trademarks, taglines, product names, and other consumer-facing content
  • Prepare draft clearance reports for attorney review
  • Handle day-to-day prosecution of domestic and foreign trademark and copyright applications, including routine and substantive prosecution
  • Provide support on infringement and other enforcement actions, including conducting research, collecting evidence, and preparing draft letters and takedown notices based on attorney instruction
  • Assist in managing trademark opposition and cancellation actions, including review of Watch Notices and gathering of evidence
  • Provide guidance to clients regarding proper use of trademarks
  • Correspond with clients to obtain evidence of use and other information needed for clearance, prosecution, and enforcement
  • Actively participate in special projects, including establishing guidelines, processes, and procedures, to enable the Trademark and Global Brand Protection team to provide best-in-class service to its business partners

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience as a trademark paralegal, with strong preference for prior in-house experience
  • Experience handling a broad range of global trademark issues, as well as domain name, social media and copyright issues
  • Able to demonstrate thoughtful analysis and good judgment
  • Skilled with online trademark databases for domestic and international searches, such as SAEGIS
  • Experience with IP portfolio management databases (experience with WebTMS preferred)
  • Experience filing applications, renewals, and other documents with the USPTO
  • Comfort overseeing high-volume, active docket with numerous deadlines
  • Experience crafting and delivering impactful training material; adept at using PowerPoint and other presentation tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; Can clearly and succinctly communicate practical advice in a client-friendly manner
  • Strong organizational skills and process/detail-orientation needed to effectively prioritize a high-volume workload;  can thrive in a dynamic environment and consistently deliver high-quality, well-thought-out deliverables; Can understand when issues need to be escalated for deeper discussion
  • Work well in a team environment and value collaboration and communication across the team
  • Friendly, approachable style that fits with Yum’s culture
